Phase two has finally landed…

plenty of under the hood improvements...

Finally…after an incredibly busy period in my life I have managed to find some time to design and develop the next installment of quirksmode.co.uk. Aside from the new CSS3 effects, Drop Down Menu and a couple of other visual tweaks, aesthetically not too much has changed, this was more about improving what was under the hood.

The HTML, CSS and JS have all been tightened up and the pages are now a lot more lightweight and load much faster. I am proud to say that the biggest addition …

Living it up at the Rotunda

Hanging out at the Rotunda

I have finally made the big move and left my seaside hometown of Ramsgate. It wasn’t the best, but I will definitely miss it. Birmingham is now my latest place of residence and I am definitely so much happier here.

Admittedly my commute to work is a bit of a killer at 1:10 mins, but Virgin Trains are pretty comfy (though always late!) and it allows me time to catch up on the important things in life e.g. music production, watching movies etc.

Back onto subject, I have just moved into the …

Heading to Camelot

All good things must come to an end and after 2 long years it is finally time to leave P&O Ferries and move on to pastures new. The experience I acquired as lead creative and front end developer has been invaluable and I have certainly come a long way since that initial baptism of fire.

After much consideration I have decided to migrate away from the permanent sector and try my hand at contracting as I feel this style of work will suit me and I always enjoy a fresh new …

Top 6 Firefox Developer Add-ons

I know what your thinking, usually these lists come in flavours of 5, 10, 20 etc, so apologies for the random number. The last 2 on my list could technically count as 1 so if reading lists of 6 makes you feel a little unbalanced, you can always close your eyes and pretend.

Anyways, here’s my list of the top 6 developer add-ons for firefox. They make life so much easier when it comes to developing websites and I heartily recommend you check them out.

It's a lot nicer than my old one

I have finally bought a new car

Following the tragic demise of my Peugeot 306 (RIP) and some lengthy trips to work by train I jumped at the opportunity to buy my brothers car off him. It may not have been the dream car I was saving up for, but it’s a really amazing little beast and at £3750 I got a really good price for it.

It’s a Y reg (2001) Silver Golf GTI Turbo and when you consider that this car was built seven years ago, you realise what an amazing job VW did with it. …

A look at the different technologies used

Technology: sIFR 3 Flash Text

This is the first post of hopefully many that describes the technology I have used on this website. It will provide a great reference for me to come back to and also introduce to others some great tools and resources.

sIFR 3

When I first heard about sIFR I had to double take because it almost seemed too good to be true. One of htmls many limitations was the inability to use a bespoke font that differed from those supported by the operating systems and therefore run the risk of …

The Website has Landed - Screenshot of Quirksmode

Phase one of Quirksmode is finally complete! It’s been quite a journey. I always find that the hardest work you undertake as a designer is when it’s for yourself. Why it is so hard I am not 100% sure because there are no strict deadlines or sudden changes to keep you on your toes.

Perhaps it’s the simple fact that you will never be happy with the end result and this is why I have decided to name this first release “Phase one”, with lots more improvements and features to soon …
